Electrabel-Suez, a major player in the energy sector
Electrabel was born from the merger between Intercom, Ebes and Unerg in 1990. Historically, it is the largest producer and supplier of electricity in Belgium, and it is expanding throughout the European market.
The majority shareholder, Suez-Tractebel (with 51.1%), bought it out and now heads the four core activities of the major, inevitably oligopolistic company:
- Sales of electricity, natural gas, and energy products and services
- Electricity generation
- Electricity and natural gas trading
- Operation of electricity and natural gas networks, according to the wishes of the distribution network administrators (in Wallonia).

It is important to keep in mind that Electrabel manages a generation system of about 29,500 MW in European regions. The generation system mainly employs natural gas and nuclear power plants in Belgium and Luxembourg.
A Newsletter written and translated by Eurologos
Eurologos Brussels is working with Electrabel on their bi-monthly Newsletter, Energy Market Trends. This Newsletter contains information about the evolution of the energy market. This is a true “collaboration” as a Eurologos copywriter writes the source text in French or Dutch on-site together with the Marketing Department. Then we translate the text into English and French (or Dutch) in the following 90 minutes.
