120 countries worldwide. It was established in 1949 in Minneapolis (US), where its headquarters are still based.
Eurologos–Gliwice is translating and localizing Medtronic’s technical documentation into Polish, which includes certificates of conformity, contracts and

advertising material.
The main issue for any localization activity – especially in the health sector – is obviously the thoroughness of terminology and phraseology. This is simply a part of the daily routine for all Eurologos offices. Even when working in Polish.

Germany, is working with Amitech, the German subsidiary of the Saudi Arabian multinational, the AMIANTIT group.
Recently, Eurologos-Leipzig has translated, among other texts, installation manuals for water flow pipes into both German and English. As ever, Trados translation memories were used

to homogenize the application of technical terminology used in the language of the sector and of the company: the Amiantit Pipe System technolect had to be scrupulously adhered to (www.amiantit.com).

How should scientific works be treated?
Victor del Prado and Kent Brabon, directors of Eurologos’ Madrid office, held two lectures in front of around a hundred people at the ACTA congress, the Spanish Association of Technical-Scientific Authors and Academics.
ACTA (www.acta.es) is a prestigious association to which more than 800 Spanish technical and scientific authors belong. Every year it organizes a number of congresses and activities for the interest of its members, and, on this occasion, held a seminar exclusively on technical translation.

Toledo Translation School: a modern institution emerging from a long tradition
The seminar took place in a beautiful fourteenth-century palace, the home of the Toledo Translation

School, which hosted the event with great enthusiasm. The School is a modern academic institute for research into translation, taking its inspiration from the events that, in the twelfth century and after the conquest of Toledo by the Christians, led to the production of Latin and Castilian translations of the great works of science and philosophy (as well as astrology) from the Arab world of the Middle Ages, completed under the protection of the patron Castilian king, Alfonso X.

ACTA, a professional association for technical works

ACTA belongs to CEDRO (collective official body for the intellectual property rights of writers, translators, journalists and editors in Spain) and was set up in order to protect the exercise of intellectual property rights by authors of techno-scientific and academic works. Its protection also extends to translators of techno-scientific works.

Lecture on
“Multilingual technical
translation management”

Kent Brabon delivered a lecture on “High quality multilingual technical translation management”, where he examined in detail the difficulties of modern communication, the limitations placed on a large part of what the sector can offer, and the solutions proposed by the Eurologos Group in the specialist field of technical translation for the Spanish market. This field, it must not be forgotten, is Eurologos-Madrid’s main area of specialization, for which it has some excellent references.

Lecture on “Computerized translation
 memory systems applied
to technical translation”

Victor del Prado gave a very dynamic, particularly well-received lecture on “Computerized translation memory systems applied to technical translation”. In little more than 40 minutes, he introduced the origins, possibilities and limitations of modern linguistic engineering instruments. These, it must be added, are indispensable to the streamlining of the production of high quality technical texts. Indeed, these translation memories allow terminology and phraseology homogenization to be carried out in a thorough and efficient manner.
