Machine translation as an aid to human translation
Translation will always be an art ultimately dependent on the translator's talent. His/her unavoidable idiolect (personal style) will always mark the texture and final quality of the translated text.
Eurologos translators however, are increasingly using texts pre-translated by machines in order to produce well-written texts, which adhere more closely to the original.
It would be ideal if the machine translation could one day provide the translator with what is referred to as an "intelligible gist", a translation mechanically produced by computer but semantically founded. The translator could thus devote himself to the inevitable stylistic revision and the terminological
fine-tuning of the text in order to make it publishable.
At the start of the first decade of the 21st century, it is still very rare to find pairs of languages that can be used as "completely intelligible gists".
