What exactly do multilingual localization and multimedia publishing involve?

Looking at the diagram, it is clear to see that the use of editing as a synonym of publishing cannot be totally justified.
Whilst editing describes the operations referring to the text (words) and in particular, copywriting, translation, and rewriting, publishing mainly covers their iconographic and multimedia integration (words + images + sounds).
However, it must be noted that the term editing is also used to describe the mass printing and duplication onto cassettes (audio and/or video), CDs and DVDs. On the other hand, when describing the production of illustrated hypertext pages for the Internet, the term web publishing is correctly and quite widely used.
